Guitar Lessons Reviews
Nicholas Stott, Bülach
After about a year of teaching myself, I felt I had stagnated and reached a certain learning plateau. Due to lack of progress and lack of inspiration I felt slowly but surely frustrated and therefore sought professional help. I was looking for a teacher who could turn my existing knowledge of scales and chords into real "guitar playing". With John, I found just that. It's about the practical, i. practice hands-on to learn games in a way that really sounds like guitar playing, not just notes or chord sequences. There is probably no song that John can not teach you. For me it's about getting to know the instrument so that I can really print it out, and John knows how to do it. Every hour is a challenge for the brain and the fingers, but every week I feel like I've learned something new and progressed. And: I have just renewed for another 10 weeks ... ☺
Joël Brunner, Turbenthal
My name is Joël Brunner, I'm 17 years old and I commute from Turbenthal to Regensdorf every Friday to attend John's guitar lesson. I think it's worth traveling for over an hour to learn to play the guitar from him. I could have taken lessons in Winterthur or even Turbenthal, but I heard from friends that their guitar teacher prescribed songs for them and they had to go through a lot of tedious theory. But I wanted to have a teacher who was flexible and could teach me the whole theory with melodies or songs that I also really enjoy listening to in private. If you are looking for a guitar teacher like the one I was looking for, you are in good hands with John. I can go to his guitar lesson, show him songs that I like, and he will teach me each song with the corresponding theory. He can also show me how to play improvised. After about 6 weeks I can already play several songs and play improvised guitar without it sounding wrong.

Very good guitar lessons by John Lyons. Supports with best practice both electric and classical guitar in a straightforward atmosphere.

I came to John's trial lesson with a rental guitar on my back and a self-study book. My attempt to learn to play the guitar myself had failed and I was a bit demotivated. But I wanted to find out whether this instrument suits me. That's why I decided to take a trial lesson.
John showed me the beginner chords in the first lesson. I really had no talent. Nevertheless, I booked a 10 lesson-subscription, my ambition was awakened. I've been taking guitar lessons weekly for almost a year now. I'm still not a talent... But thanks to John's support, I'm slowly being rewarded for my efforts. With patience and understanding and yet a healthy dose of ambition for the student, he knows how to support me in my motivation and gives me a lot of freedom to design the lessons myself.
You'll probably look in vain for a textbook in John's room... Nevertheless, he conveys the theory you need to understand the connections between notes, chords, scales, etc. Even though it can sometimes be a bit tiring after a day at work, I know that John will teach me exactly what I will need as I learn to play. And I know that thanks to John's guitar lessons, I will eventually be able to express myself with the guitar.
And what I like most about taking guitar lessons with John Lyons... No matter what mood I show up to the lesson in... There's always something to laugh about.

After my first practice lesson, John got me excited about playing the guitar. Even though I had no prior knowledge of music, he explained the theory to me very simply so that I quickly understood it. The lessons are not guided by a textbook, he responds to my wishes and I can decide for myself which songs I want to learn. He even supports me as a vocal coach. At first I didn't feel like I hit a single note. After a few of his exercises it works much better 🙈 The best thing about all, every lesson ends with a good mood. Even if the day was so stressful. There is always something to laugh about 😊

John Lyons always listens to my wishes about what I want to learn in guitar lessons. Sometimes I would like to go through the theory, sometimes learn new grips or even go through a song together. He is patient and explains it until it is clearly understandable and comprehensible. With him you have fun and constantly learn new things. He is also a likeable person who motivates to learn and practice.

In John I found an easy-going guitar teacher who understood my needs and learning style and found the right way to teach me. Time always passes too quickly and even though I don't get to practice every day, I'm making great progress. Because John's lessons are always fun, he can motivate me and my interest in the guitar grows with every lesson. Thanks!

Great guitar lessons. John responds to the students' wishes and makes it very exciting, even the theory is simple. Great atmosphere during lessons and even in English.
